TOMEI A13 + FCR

July 30, 2011

Rick Bone, the man behind NZ’s fastest KB110 is upping the power with a SR20DET! Apparently the 250HP A15 wasn’t enough of an animal and aims for a conservative and reliable 300HP by the way of a dry sump setup, Tomei cams and springs, injectors, Eagle rods and JE pistons. Something tells me that it may be a bit overkill for just 300HP and more will come when it’s dialled in but we will see. Rick says the plan is to race in NZGT or GT2 depending on how fast it goes and will be starting with 300HP at the wheels with no weight restrictions. A little bit disappointed the A15 got the boot I asked if there were plans for it to go back in the future and Rick replied saying he hopes to return it back to it’s original form at some stage. I’m unsure what he has done with the rear end but I think the H165 that was in there before has remained, fingers crossed it hangs in there as I will be testing the durability of them soon enough too.  The car will be at Nisfest as well as on the track throughout the season if anyone wants to stop in to watch some new car hammering. Thanks to Rick and Nicky for the photos and I wait eagerly for it’s debut.

I just remembered I had saved these photos of Kuni’s old square light sunny truck! It actually had quite a bit done to it and no doubt would have sounded awesome through those Solexs. More here and here

Here’s a video from Sato. Facelift dash, sidedrafts and a little sedan.

2 Clean B110s

It seems the more I search the more I come upon amazing sunny builds and I keep thinking about the effort that gets put into them. Its huge and I can only wish more had the care, patience and money to do these cars justice like the two cars above. Via: Sanikichi

AY12 Video

June 11, 2011

AY12! If the LZ14 that I posted yesterday was rare… this is unobtainable. As of now this is the only footage I’ve seen of this engine and only touches of information exist. Ian took some scans of the TS Cup issue of Autotechnic a while back which featured some information and tech drawings of the AY12 and even an AZ12, click here.

The AY12 is another race developed engine which, as you can see from the tech drawing features a 2 valve cross flow head on the A12 block. What I’ve always found interesting is what seems like a twin spark set up with extra ignition leads disappearing into the rocker cover. But they seem to poke through small holes, if you wanted to change those plugs you’d have to remove the whole cover…?  These tech drawings show mechanical fuel injection so I wonder why this particular one is running quad carbs.

A few years back Mikko in Finland was saying they had a AY12 head and were going to reproduce some for those willing to pay for them but I never heard anything more from it? I think he had some trouble with bad companies. Either way, wow finally some video! I remember there being a tiny pixelated photo of the AY12 some 6 or so years ago.

Keiichi Tsuchiya behind the wheel of a KB110 GX-5 and a KP61, awesome. The 4K has 11 more HP and looks like it transitions a bit better but man, if he said the sunny was the worst car in the world to drive I still wouldn’t care. LOOK AT IT!

Rick Bone / SS2000 KB110 / Hampton Downs, March 2011

I’d hazard a guess that Rick Bones Datsun has the fastest A15 in the country. I’d love to see one that can lap Taupo faster! If I recall correctly the highly developed A series puts out 205HP at the flywheel and weighs a mere 669KG. From the outside it looks like a tidy coupé with some decent rubber and some body mods; it only becomes blatantly obvious the hours that have gone into this car when it not just beats, but runs all over MUCH newer cars. Rick placed 1st in the 1600CC class last season and 3rd outright with two 2000cc + cars before him but beating 5 2000cc class cars that attended every event. Not bad results Rick!

It has been quite some time since I last caught up with Rick and the car has undergone a rebuild and an upgrade since. It’s looking mighty tidy. Hope you enjoy the photos as much as I enjoy watching and hearing this little Datsun sprint.
