When I was in Australia this February I caught up with Ian, a good mate of mine who just so happens to be a Datsun nerd like myself. Between him and his dad he has 3 Datsun 1000s and 3 Datsun 1200 coupes including a rally modified one. Much to my delight we went out to the ‘shed’, which may I add is amazing, and cut up the floor of the KB10 on the hoist to fit a fuel cell. It is being built with the engine which used to be in Ian’s street car, a modified A15 which he let me drive a few years ago around the hills in Wollongong.

We hung out, drunk beer, ate pizza and I became familiar with a car I have been lusting over for years, the Datsun 1000 coupe. I rang out the little A10 in the KB10 in the last photo around the block and fell in love. One day I will own one of these cars! I’d just like to note a practical point: Datsun 1000s don’t have chassis rails running down the floor pan, the rails over the rear axles are perfect for notching and slamming out the front transverse leaf suspension is easy as anything… just saying.

Cheers Ian, can’t wait to build Datsuns with you again one day!

I’m in Australia at the moment and will be here still for the next month surfing. If you’re into photography, surfing, surfboards or the Australian country side then check out my photography blog here because there won’t be much posted here for a while. In the mean time, here are some Datsun 1000s for my mate Ian who picked me up in Sydney and toured me around his Datsun sanctuary. He even let me drive his 1000 coupe! which I hope to own one day.

B10 sled has some new wheels

September 1, 2011

You may remember that I posted a photo or two of this car a while back, much to the disgust of a few viewers. I have a small hunch it was the matt black and the 17s that was doing it but recently the 17s have been ditched for some gold Riverside Riverage wheels, much better. I myself aren’t very much into 15s on such a small car but hey, how often do you see a B10 this slammed.

This is the first time I’ve actually seen any photos of the airbag set up and I was surprised to see it’s a rocker arm setup, probably because of the huge lack of space in that tiny boot and between the H145 and the floor. I’m pretty stoked it still has the little A-series engine, they always look so damn good in a B10 engine bay. Love it or hate it, you can’t help but chuckle at the idea of an air bagged Datsun 1000. Takuchan for his yahoo blog and Bochibochi Go! for a few more photos

A very clean VB10 Datsun 1000 ‘van’ posted right after Senna’s MP4/4, now that’s contrast. I’ve always wanted a Datsun 1000, mainly a coupe but there’s no denying  the appeal of this miniature wagon.

A 1000 wagons

June 10, 2009

I have moved on from my wagon but in no way have I forgotten them.
They’re not much bigger than a matchbox, they feed petrol and air into a humming 1000cc inferno and have more space in them than a $2 hooker…… They are Datsun 1000 wagons!

Lil round fender mirrors, little monsoons and a little sunroof. A could imagine driving the coast in this pale banana, surfboards/tent/bbq in the back, some notes flowing out the tape deck in tune with the revey A10. Ahhhhhhhh
