RICK BONE @ HAMPTON FEB13

February 10, 2013

If you’re into Datsuns and you don’t already follow Rick Bones Datsun 1200, I suggest you do. Having fought hard in SS2000 for years with his incredible 205 flywheel hp A15, he’s swapped to a SR20DET and pursued GTRNZ. After a few rounds, he then got pushed into GT2 when ran times below the minimum allowed time bracket. As you can see in the video above, GT2 is a serious class with Sivias, Skylines, Porsche GT3s, BMW M5, camaros etc.

Unfortunately round 5 at Hampton Downs didn’t end to well for Rick. After reeling in the 3.6 litre Porsche GT3 that was up front, he tapped its ass out of the hairpin which only ended badly. I believe Rick has sorted the damage already which tells good things for round 6 at Manfield.

I’d like to note for those unfamiliar with the series, that the cars passing were from the class above, GT1. Also that Ricks SR20 (running a mere 8psi) is the smallest capacity engine of the field. The largest being a 6.2 litre corvette. Way to go Rick, I can’t wait to see this in the flesh and I hope the rest of the season goes well for you.

RICK BONES KB110 – A15

October 20, 2011

Rick’s little 1200 now has the hungry power of a SR20DET pushing it along but we cannot forget the A15 which thrashed so many new Hondas in SS2000!

Rick Bone, the man behind NZ’s fastest KB110 is upping the power with a SR20DET! Apparently the 250HP A15 wasn’t enough of an animal and aims for a conservative and reliable 300HP by the way of a dry sump setup, Tomei cams and springs, injectors, Eagle rods and JE pistons. Something tells me that it may be a bit overkill for just 300HP and more will come when it’s dialled in but we will see. Rick says the plan is to race in NZGT or GT2 depending on how fast it goes and will be starting with 300HP at the wheels with no weight restrictions. A little bit disappointed the A15 got the boot I asked if there were plans for it to go back in the future and Rick replied saying he hopes to return it back to it’s original form at some stage. I’m unsure what he has done with the rear end but I think the H165 that was in there before has remained, fingers crossed it hangs in there as I will be testing the durability of them soon enough too.  The car will be at Nisfest as well as on the track throughout the season if anyone wants to stop in to watch some new car hammering. Thanks to Rick and Nicky for the photos and I wait eagerly for it’s debut.

Phil Brown’s KE25 Corolla is seeming more like a Honda these days, now housing a F20C deep in the firewall. I didn’t get to talk to Phil but by the looks of the SS2000 results from Round 6 at Hampton, replacing the old 16V 4AGE was well worth the effort. #30 placed third overall and  first in the 1601-2000cc class. Nice work Phil.

Rick Bone charges around the outside as Phil and Matthew McBride slip up the inside. How good is this view? B110, KE35, SA22.

Rick Bone / SS2000 KB110 / Hampton Downs, March 2011

I’d hazard a guess that Rick Bones Datsun has the fastest A15 in the country. I’d love to see one that can lap Taupo faster! If I recall correctly the highly developed A series puts out 205HP at the flywheel and weighs a mere 669KG. From the outside it looks like a tidy coupé with some decent rubber and some body mods; it only becomes blatantly obvious the hours that have gone into this car when it not just beats, but runs all over MUCH newer cars. Rick placed 1st in the 1600CC class last season and 3rd outright with two 2000cc + cars before him but beating 5 2000cc class cars that attended every event. Not bad results Rick!

It has been quite some time since I last caught up with Rick and the car has undergone a rebuild and an upgrade since. It’s looking mighty tidy. Hope you enjoy the photos as much as I enjoy watching and hearing this little Datsun sprint.

SS2000 Datsuns

December 15, 2008

These are quite old photos now, I took them sometime last year I think… can’t quite remember.

First off, we have Rick Bone’s SS2000 dominating KB110. <1600cc SS2000 championship winner of the 06/07 season.
This thing is amazing and you really have to see it race to believe how fast it is. It runs a highly developed A15, H165, 240k struts etc. Ill let the photos do the talking:
